Founded in Würzburg
Chan-jo Jun founds the firm on an unusual bet: that the then-young field of information technology law will become a distinct discipline that depends on specialization. The location from day one: Würzburg.
- 2009
Building the IT law practice
With Christian Galetzka, the firm gains a lawyer who completes the Master of Laws (LL.M.) Informationsrecht (information law) in Oldenburg alongside his practice. Deep expertise in IT and copyright law becomes the house standard.
- 2014
First Fachanwältin für IT-Recht
Yvonne Roßmann becomes the first at the firm to earn the Fachanwalt title (specialist lawyer qualification) for information technology law. Specialization is thus no longer merely an aspiration, but from then on a standard visible to the outside world as well.
- 2016
Proceedings against platform operators
Chan-jo Jun files criminal complaints against those responsible at Facebook and represents clients in proceedings against platform operators. The combination of hate speech law and platform liability becomes a visible hallmark of the firm — and shapes its later practice under the Digital Services Act.
- 2021
Praxishandbuch Open Source
Christian Galetzka, Chan-jo Jun and Yvonne Roßmann publish Praxishandbuch Open Source — a German practitioner's handbook on open source — with Fachmedien Recht und Wirtschaft. The 415-page volume covers the license-compliant use of FOSS. Experience from client matters becomes a standard reference work.

OpenChain partner
The firm becomes a partner of the OpenChain Project (Linux Foundation) and supports companies in implementing ISO/IEC 5230 — the international standard for open-source compliance.
- 2024
Bayerischer Verfassungsorden
Chan-jo Jun receives the Bayerischer Verfassungsorden (Bavarian Order of Merit of the Constitution) for his years of legal work against online hate. In the same year, he becomes a deputy lay (non-career-judge) member of the Bayerischer Verfassungsgerichtshof (Bavarian Constitutional Court) and chair of the IT Law Committee of the German Federal Bar Association (Bundesrechtsanwaltskammer).

JUN Legal GmbH
The firm now operates as JUN Legal GmbH Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft (German limited-liability law firm) — an expression of a practice that has outgrown the original solo firm structurally, professionally, and in its public profile. More than 35 team members, nine Fachanwälte für IT-Recht (specialist lawyers for IT law), one Fachanwältin für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz (specialist lawyer for intellectual property law), and its own research project, Juriskop, with the University of Würzburg.
What comes next.
[ Outlook ]What began in 2001 with the bet that IT law would become a distinct field is today a well-practiced operation with clearly defined focus areas — FOSS compliance, social media law, AI & legal tech, data protection and data law. The next wave is already approaching: the AI Act taking effect in stages, the Data Act in full application, the Cyber Resilience Act for manufacturers of connected products.
Our answer to it remains the same as in 2001 — stay ahead of structural change, build the practice internally in modules (see Careers), and turn what we learn into publications, training sessions, and lectures. Doing this in Würzburg rather than in one of the usual metropolises was a gamble in the early 2000s. Today it is one of our location advantages.
